St. Luke Catholic Church 50th Anniversary

Mission Statement

We, the members of St. Luke Parish, are committed to a year long celebration of our 50th Anniversary: Project Blessing.  With prayer and worship as our foundation, we will extend the gifts of our faith community to the world around us.  In a spirit of stewardship and service, we pledge this as our mission.

In keeping with the generosity that is the hallmark of St. Luke Parish, our major thrust will be OUTREACH.  But there will be many ways to celebrate.  We will have fundraisers for the outreach projects, a parish pictorial published, videos, prayer and reflection opportunities, parish parties and community building, special keepsakes, affordable dinners, etc.  We will conclude the celebration with an Anniversary Liturgy on October 18, 2012 and a Gala Dinner on October 20, 2012.

Two well known organizations will be the recipients of our outreach efforts.  Locally we will assist the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley.  Our world wide outreach focus will be Food for the Poor, whose representatives have visited St. Luke in the past.

Below is a listing of events planned for September 2011 through October 2012..  Check back often for updated information!

The portrait sessions for this year have concluded. Your order should arrive shortly.  If all you wanted was the complimentary 8"x10" portrait, it was mailed to the parish office.  You may stop by during regular office hours to pick them up, or if you prefer you may call the parish office and we will arrange to have it in the sacristy for pickup after the weekend masses.  Again, thank you for your participation.

Ongoing:  THE WISH JUG

The Wish Jug is placed in the narthex of the church at every weekend Mass. All are invited to drop in their loose change at any time.  The money so generously donated will be used for our many outreach projects planned throughout the year.

September, 2011:

50th Anniversary Reflection Booklets

In September, 2011, each parish household will receive a 50th Anniversary Reflection Booklet.  The booklet will be pocket size and contain scripture, prayer and reflection. Anniversary events will be included in the booklet.

Bonfire & Storyteller

Following the September 24 Eastern European Parish Dinner, we will gather around the campfire for music and storytelling.  A great family event!

 October, 2011:

50¢ a Day for 40 Days

On October 1st and 2nd collection boxes will be distributed and the parishioners will be asked to contribute 50¢ a day for 40 days.  They will be collected on the weekend of November 12th and 13th.  All funds collected will be presented to representatives of the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley at Hospitality Sunday in November in time for Thanksgiving.

On November 21, St. Luke sent a check to the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley

in the amount of $1998.50.

November, 2011:

Ornament Sale

Commemorative Christmas ornaments celebrating the 50th Anniversary will be available for purchase during the month of November.  These one-of-a-kind handcrafted original design ornaments are cast in solid bronze and proudly produced in the USA by the artisans and craftsmen of Wendell August Forge. 

The St. Luke 50th Anniversary Ornament depicts the front of the church with open doors.  The bell tower is placed prominently in front and the date of the founding of the parish is in the upper left.

Each ornament comes gift boxed with care instructions.  The cost is $20.00 each with limited availability.

They are available for purchase at the parish office during regular business hours.

Christmas Concert

On Saturday evening, November 26, the Youngstown Area Community Concert Band will once again fill the church with the sounds of the season.  Be sure to join us after the 4:30 Mass for an evening of great entertainment.  Bring your family and friends!  This event is free and open to the public.

January 2012:  White Sale Collection

We will be collecting NEW twin and full size sheets, towels, wash cloths, pillows, blankets and kitchen towels to be donated to the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley. Your donations can be left in the blue bin in the narthex of the church.

THANK YOU!! With your help we were able to supply the Rescue Mission with some much needed sheets, towels, blankets and pillows.  

MARCH 2012 FOOD DRIVE 

With the asssistance of the Knights of Columbus, the 50th Anniversary Committee will host a food drive for the benefit of the Rescue Misssion of the Mahoning Valley.  During the weekends in March you may drop off the following items in the Martha & Mary room:

Regular and restaurant size canned goods such as:

• fruits
• vegetables
• peanut butter
• jelly and jam
• soups
• spaghetti sauce
• tuna
• coffee
• fruit juices
• baby food

Plus any of the following dried and boxed items:

• cereal
• pasta
• oatmeal
• jello
• rice
• tea

Help make this drive a success and help those less fortunate than ourselves! 

MAY 2012 

On Sunday, May 20 we will celebrate with our annual Spring Thing Parish Picnic. The 50th Anniversary Committe members will be selling 50/50 raffle tickets with the proceeds going toward the house to be built in Haiti through Food for the Poor.

June 2012

On Wednesday, June 13th, we will host an Outback Steak Dinner sponsored by Outback Steak House.  Tickets are $15 and maybe purchased at any weekend Mass or at the parish office during regular business hours.

The dinner includes steak and chicken breast, baked potato, salad, roll and butter, dessert, coffee, water or BYOB.  Serving time is 5:30 to 7:30.
